New Delhi, May 6 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday urged the Centre to accord approval to the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project and sought the Union government’s participation as a joint venture partner in its implementation.
During a meeting with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi, the Chief Minister said the Telangana government had already prepared and submitted a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Metro Phase-II comprising seven corridors.
Revanth Reddy said the rapid expansion of Hyderabad city required further strengthening of the metro rail network to meet the growing transportation needs of commuters.
He informed the Union Minister that the State government had taken over L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited, which operated Metro Phase-I, to facilitate smoother implementation of Metro Phases II and III.
With Metro Phase-I now under government control, execution of expansion works under future phases would become easier and more streamlined, he said.
According to the State government’s proposal, Metro Phase-II envisages expansion across seven corridors covering 122.9 kilometres at an estimated cost of ₹38,595 crore.
The Chief Minister requested the Centre to approve the project at the earliest and implement it jointly with the Telangana government.
Revanth Reddy also urged the Union Minister to consider the RGIA Airport–Bharat Future City corridor under Metro Phase-III in view of Hyderabad’s future urban transport requirements. He said the DPR for Phase-III had already been submitted to the Centre.
Officials present at the meeting included Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary K. Srinivas, Chief Minister’s Special Secretary B. Ajith Reddy, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmad, State Government Adviser (Urban Transport) N.V.S. Reddy, Telangana Bhavan Special Officer Sanjay Kumar and Coordination Secretary for Central Government Schemes Advait Kumar Singh, among others.
