Telangana Governor Calls Yoga a Holistic Way of Life Ahead of International Yoga Day

Hyderabad, June 20 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday said yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a holistic way of life that fosters harmony between the body, mind and soul.

Speaking after participating as the Chief Guest at the 24-hour countdown event organised at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad ahead of the International Day of Yoga, the Governor said that in an era marked by stress and fast-paced lifestyles, yoga offers inner peace, discipline and positive energy.

The programme was organised under the leadership of Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy.

Addressing the gathering, Shukla said yoga, a symbol of India’s ancient wisdom and spiritual heritage, has evolved into a global movement for health and well-being.

He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for playing a pivotal role in securing worldwide recognition for the International Day of Yoga.

The Governor noted that the United Nations General Assembly, with the support of 177 countries, adopted a resolution in 2014 declaring June 21 as the International Day of Yoga, describing it as a matter of pride for every Indian.

Observing that yoga is among India’s most treasured cultural legacies, he said it is spreading the message of physical fitness and mental balance across the world.

He urged people to make yoga an integral part of their daily lives rather than confining it to a one-day celebration.

Emphasising the need for a physically and mentally strong citizenry, Shukla said a healthy, prosperous and self-reliant India could be built only when its people are empowered in both body and mind.

He called upon citizens to embrace the message of “Yoga for Health, Yoga for Balance and Yoga for Inner Strength.”

Former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Rajya Sabha Members Dr. K. Laxman and V. Vijayendra Prasad, Member of Parliament Eatala Rajender, BJP State President N. Ramchander Rao, BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, MLCs, film personalities Payal Radhakrishna, Naveen Polishetty and Dimple, along with several IAS and IPS officers, yoga gurus, practitioners, public representatives, youth and a large number of citizens attended the event.
