Telangana CM warns possible deletion of 20% votes, asks Congress leaders to counter BRS-BJP ‘Conspiracy’
Hyderabad, Aug 13 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday warned Congress leaders that around 20 per cent of votes could be at risk of deletion during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and directed the party machinery to launch an immediate constituency-level exercise to safeguard eligible voters’ names.
In a politically charged meeting with senior Congress leaders, Revanth Reddy said any failure to act with caution during the revision process could cause serious political damage to the Congress in future, and asked party leaders to take full responsibility for protecting voters.
The Chief Minister directed the in-charge ministers to hold reviews with parliamentary and Assembly constituency in-charges in their respective districts and identify issues relating to the electoral rolls.
The ministers have been asked to complete the reviews within two days and submit a constituency-wise report. Assembly constituency in-charges were directed to remain in their respective constituencies for four days, examine the ground situation and ensure that problems are resolved comprehensively.
Revanth Reddy also asked Congress leaders to step up their political campaign against what he alleged was a BRS-BJP conspiracy to delete voters’ names, and expose the two parties before the people.
The Chief Minister warned that the party would not tolerate lapses in implementing an action plan in accordance with the directions of the AICC. He asked leaders at all levels to remain vigilant and ensure that eligible voters are not left out of the electoral rolls.
The directions assume political significance as the Congress government seeks to strengthen its organisational machinery at the booth and constituency levels.
Revanth Reddy’s emphasis on constituency-wise monitoring also signals an attempt to turn the SIR exercise into a major political and organisational mobilisation for the party.
The Chief Minister called upon Congress leaders to move forward with a sense of responsibility and ensure that the party does not suffer electoral setbacks due to lapses in monitoring the revision process.
