Telangana CM seeks comprehensive development of Adilabad Airport
New Delhi, June 22 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday urged Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to develop the upcoming Adilabad Airport with comprehensive aviation infrastructure, including cargo handling, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities and aircraft hangars.
During a meeting with the Defence Minister at Kartavya Bhavan, the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence, the Chief Minister discussed several projects related to Telangana and sought the Centre’s support for their speedy implementation.
Revanth Reddy thanked Rajnath Singh for facilitating the transfer of defence land for the Gandhi Sarovar project and assured full cooperation from the state government in land acquisition and utility transfers required for the Adilabad Airport project, which is being developed under the aegis of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
Highlighting the strategic importance of the airport, the Chief Minister said the state government would extend all necessary support for its expansion and requested the Defence Ministry to establish cargo, MRO and hangar facilities alongside the proposed IAF and civil aviation terminals.
He said several leading international airlines were exploring suitable locations for maintenance and hangar facilities in the wake of recent developments in Central Asia and noted that Adilabad was ideally suited for such operations.
The Chief Minister also appealed to the Defence Minister to expedite approvals for a proposed Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) facility at Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district.
Senior officials accompanying the Chief Minister included Special Chief Secretary (Roads and Buildings) Vikas Raj, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister K S Sreenivasa Raju, Secretary to the Chief Minister Manik Raj and Special Secretary (Coordination) Advait Kumar Singh.
