Telangana CM Revanth Reddy condemns detention of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi

Hyderabad, Oct 6 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday condemned the detention of Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other opposition leaders during a protest in New Delhi.

Reddy described the action as a reflection of what he termed the “hubris of a failing government” and alleged that the BJP-led government was afraid of Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and his campaign on electoral rights and the Constitution.

He said the detention of opposition leaders had historical precedents, recalling the arrests of freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Subhas Chandra Bose during the freedom struggle.

Reddy said such actions would not deter the Opposition and claimed that increasing participation of citizens, particularly youth, in the movement to protect voting rights and democracy would strengthen the campaign.

“Such actions shall not deter the opposition, but rather inadvertently strengthen us,” he said.

The Chief Minister asserted that the Congress and its allies would continue their campaign, saying the fight to protect democratic rights would become stronger.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were detained by Delhi Police during an opposition protest march against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Tuesday.
