Telangana CM Revanth Reddy accuses BRS of disrupting Assembly proceedings

Hyderabad, Sept 16 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday accused the opposition BRS of deliberately disrupting the Assembly proceedings, alleging that it was attempting to prevent debates on issues related to land and other matters.

Speaking during a debate on the Section 22-A prohibited properties list in the Assembly, the Chief Minister alleged that the BRS feared discussions on issues including government lands, fee reimbursement and the drought situation.

Reddy criticised BRS members over their conduct in the House and said the Speaker had allowed them to participate in the proceedings despite their earlier protests and alleged remarks against the Chair and police personnel.

He said the Speaker had expected the opposition members to apologise and participate in discussions on public issues, but they instead created a ruckus, following which they were suspended.

“Respecting the Speaker is a tradition for the members. The Speaker is the one who protects the rights of every member in the House,” the Chief Minister said.

Reddy maintained that the Speaker was following rules framed during the previous BRS government.

He said directives regarding entry at Gate No. 3 were issued in accordance with those rules and implemented by the police.

Responding to the Opposition’s reference to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi entering Parliament wearing a black T-shirt, the Chief Minister said no comparable restriction had been imposed by the Lok Sabha Speaker.

Had such an order prohibiting T-shirts bearing slogans been issued, it would have been followed, he said.

The Chief Minister also said his government was giving priority to women’s empowerment and had set a target of enabling one crore women to become “crorepatis”.
