Telangana BJP Demands Rahul Gandhi Apologise to Students Over ‘Idiots’ Remark
Hyderabad, July 29 (TNT): BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Wednesday demanded that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi apologise to students for allegedly referring to them as “idiots” during a debate in the Lok Sabha on the Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill and NEET examination reforms.
Addressing a press conference, Rao alleged that Gandhi’s remarks insulted the student community and reflected contempt towards the country’s youth, whom he described as the nation’s future.
The BJP leader also criticised Gandhi for allegedly lacking understanding of the subject under discussion and accused him of wasting Parliament’s time.
Rao further accused the Congress of spreading misinformation regarding the use of rubber pellets during protests in Delhi and sought an explanation over the deaths of students during the Telangana statehood movement.
He alleged that the Congress leadership was responsible for the loss of more than 1,400 students and youth during different phases of the Telangana agitation.
Referring to former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s announcement on Telangana statehood, Rao claimed the subsequent reversal of the decision had led to widespread disappointment among students.
He said the Congress should apologise to the people of Telangana and the student community for the deaths during the agitation and for failing to fulfil its promises.
Rao also criticised Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, questioning her remarks on police action against protesters, and alleged that the Congress government in Telangana had failed to implement the promises made under its “Youth Declaration” ahead of the Assembly elections
