Telangana BJP Chief Backs Eatala Rajender’s Padyatra for Relocation of Jawaharnagar Dumping Yard
Hyderabad, Oct 27 (TNT): Telangana BJP president N Ramachandar Rao on Tuesday joined party MP Eatala Rajender’s ‘Chalo Jawaharnagar’ Maha Padayatra and demanded the permanent relocation of the Jawaharnagar dumping yard, alleging that pollution from the facility was severely affecting the health and livelihood of residents in surrounding areas.
Rao participated in the march, which began near Lakshminarayana Lake at Edulabad in Ghatkesar mandal, and expressed support for Rajender’s campaign seeking a permanent solution to the problem.
Referring to earlier proceedings in the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Rao said directions had been issued for relocating the dumping yard and undertaking scientific capping.
He questioned the government over the status of the capping work and alleged that environmental regulations were not being implemented.
He said residents of Cheryala and Edulabad were facing pollution, foul odour and groundwater contamination.
He also claimed that fish from Edulabad Lake were no longer finding buyers because of concerns over water quality, and said the effects of pollution were being felt in areas beyond the immediate vicinity.
Citing the Okhla Waste-to-Energy Plant in Delhi as an example, Rao said waste management could be carried out using scientific methods while limiting environmental damage.
He accused the state government of neglecting the Jawaharnagar issue.
Rao said the agitation had gained momentum after a month had passed since Rajender met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and sought action on the issue, without receiving a response, according to the BJP leader.
He vowed that the party’s campaign would continue until the dumping yard was closed and permanently relocated.
Rao also called on party workers and the public to participate in a BJP Maha Padayatra near Tank Bund on November 2 to create awareness about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
He said Union Home Minister Amit Shah would attend the programme and urged party cadres to step up voter enrolment for the upcoming MLC elections.
Meanwhile, the BJP Minority Morcha’s Telangana unit burnt an effigy of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at Exhibition Grounds crossroads in Hyderabad, protesting his alleged remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s family.
Tighten the lead around the demand.
