Tej Veer from Andhra Pradesh Bags Gold in Kata at International Martial Arts Championship
Hyderabad, Aug 2 (TNT) : Master Chaladi Tej Veer of Tadepalli (Seethanagaram), Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh), won the gold medal in the Kata event in the Under-10 Yellow Belt Boys category at the International Martial Arts Championship Mega Event held at Lakshmi Garden Function Hall on Sagar Road here on Sunday.
Tej Veer also secured the silver medal in the Sparring (Fight) event in the 9-12 years, 21-25 kg weight category, capping an impressive performance at the championship, which drew participants from several countries.
The twin-medal feat also earned the young martial artist promotion to the Green Belt level.
Tej Veer said his father, Chaladi Satish, a former international kickboxer, had been his greatest source of inspiration. Satish had won two silver medals in separate 75 kg categories at the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) World Championship three years ago.
He is the son of veteran journalist Chaladi Poornachandra Rao of Machilipatnam.
Training in Kung Fu since the age of five, Tej Veer is a student of the Shaolin Monks Kung Fu Academy of India at Tadepalli, Amaravati.
He trains under the guidance of the academy’s founder, Dr M. Narayana Rao, a recipient of the Bodhidharma Award, and coach Maddipatla Keerthi.
A Class V student of Ramakrishna Mission High School, Seethanagaram, Tej Veer had earlier won the national Kata title in the 25 kg category at a championship held in Chilakaluripet in March this year.
Thanking his parents, Satish and Damayanthi, for their constant encouragement, Tej Veer dedicated his victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Education Minister Nara Lokesh for their efforts towards the development of Andhra Pradesh and the country.
