Six Coal Blocks Auctioned in Latest Commercial Coal Mine Auction
New Delhi, Aug. 4 (TNT): The Ministry of Coal has successfully auctioned six coal blocks under the 15th round and the second attempt of the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions, with the blocks expected to generate annual revenue of nearly ₹1,984 crore and create over 15,700 jobs.
The auctions, launched on April 17, 2026, concluded with forward bidding held between August 3 and 4.
Of the six blocks, four are fully explored and two are partially explored, with combined geological reserves of 1,503.93 million tonnes and a cumulative Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 11.62 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
Among the successful bidders, Telangana’s Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) secured the Dip Side Extension of PKOC coal block in Telangana, which has a PRC of 2.5 MTPA and geological reserves of 181.95 million tonnes. The block was awarded at a final revenue-sharing offer of 6.5 per cent against the reserve price of 4 per cent.
Gallantt Ispat Limited won the Dongeri Tal-II block in Madhya Pradesh with a final offer of 6.5 per cent, while Qube Commercial Private Limited secured the Mandla South block in the State with a bid of 4.5 per cent.
The Jharkhand Exploration and Mining Corporation Limited emerged successful for both the Margo West and Margo East coal blocks in Jharkhand, submitting final offers of 6.5 per cent and 10.25 per cent, respectively.
In Chhattisgarh, CG Syn-Gas and Chemicals Limited won the Tara (Revised) coal block with the highest winning bid of 37.5 per cent.
According to the Ministry, the six coal blocks are expected to generate annual revenue of approximately ₹1,983.67 crore, attract capital investment of nearly ₹1,743 crore, and create around 15,710 employment opportunities.
The Ministry said that since the introduction of commercial coal mining in 2020, a total of 147 coal blocks have been successfully auctioned, with a combined production capacity of 377.974 million tonnes per annum.
Once operational, these blocks are expected to generate annual revenue of ₹48,215 crore, attract investments of ₹54,315 crore, and create nearly 4.9 lakh employment opportunities, contributing to India’s goal of achieving self-reliance in the coal sector, the Ministry added.
