SCR Launches World Environment Day 2026 Campaign with Environmental Pledge
Hyderabad, May 15 (TNT):South Central Railway (SCR) on Friday organised a curtain raiser ceremony for World Environment Day-2026 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad, under the theme “Climate Change – Focusing on the Challenges to Mother Earth”.
SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava administered the Environmental Pledge and led a signature campaign during the programme. Principal Heads of Departments, Railway Protection Force personnel and railway staff participated in the event and expressed commitment towards environmental protection.
As per Railway Board directives, SCR has launched a three-week environmental awareness programme from May 15 to June 5 across all divisions, railway stations, colonies, workshops, field units and administrative offices under its jurisdiction.
Indian Railways is also undertaking major outreach and advocacy activities for mass mobilisation under the “Mission LiFE” initiative to create awareness on the impact of behavioural changes on environmental conservation.
Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Kumar said the environmental pledge was not merely ceremonial but a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect the environment. He said World Environment Day highlights the need to safeguard Mother Earth through sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
He stated that special emphasis this year would be laid on climate change awareness, the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, clean air and green spaces, scientific waste management including e-waste disposal, and achieving Net Zero Emissions in Railways.
Earlier, SCR Chief Environment and Housekeeping Management (CEnHM) official Vinod Kumar said the zone had been consistently undertaking initiatives such as afforestation, elimination of single-use plastics, waste management, water and energy conservation, and promotion of renewable energy to reduce environmental impact.
