SCR holds meeting with MPs, discusses rail development in Telangana, AP and Karnataka

Hyderabad, Aug 20 (TNT): South Central Railway (SCR) on Thursday held a meeting with Members of Parliament from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad, to discuss railway development works and passenger services in their respective constituencies.

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy and 15 MPs attended the meeting along with SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, Additional General Manager Satya Prakash and senior railway officials.

The SCR General Manager briefed the MPs on passenger services, freight loading, goods shed development, passenger amenities, infrastructure projects, station redevelopment, digital and green initiatives, security measures and efforts to improve passenger comfort and cleanliness.

Srivastava said SCR now comprises three divisions — Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Nanded — following the reorganisation in June 2026. Despite the reorganisation, the zone has maintained its momentum, achieved its targets and improved upon the previous year’s performance.

He said 40 railway stations in Telangana are being redeveloped at a cost of more than Rs 2,000 crore.

Four Amrit stations — Hi-Tech City, Begumpet, Karimnagar and Warangal — have already been inaugurated, while works at the remaining stations are progressing, he said.

The General Manager said 1,481 km of new line, doubling and tripling projects are currently under way at an estimated cost of Rs 24,210.179 crore.

He also said four pairs of new trains and five pairs of Amrit Bharat trains had been introduced from April 2025, while 14 trains were extended to various terminals, 56 trains were provided additional stoppages and 30 pairs of trains were regularised during 2026.

The MPs complimented SCR on its initiatives and raised several issues concerning railway development and services in their constituencies.

Demanding construction of Road Under Bridges and Road Over Bridges, new railway lines, introduction of new trains, additional stoppages, extension of existing trains and improved passenger amenities, the MPs also urged SCR to expedite infrastructure projects to ensure their completion within the targeted timelines.

Srivastava thanked the MPs for their suggestions and assured them that their demands would be accorded priority. He said the suggestions would be considered for implementation and, wherever necessary, forwarded to the appropriate authorities for further action.

The views and suggestions of the MPs would also be taken into account while formulating proposals for new railway works and services, he added.
