Scindia Invites Investors to Partner in Tripura’s Growth Story
Agartala, July 9 (TNT): Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Thursday invited industry leaders to invest in Tripura, describing the state as one of the Northeast’s most promising investment destinations.
Addressing the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026 virtually, Scindia said the Northeast, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is emerging as a major engine of growth in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
He said the Centre’s Act East Policy has transformed the Northeast from a frontier region into India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, creating new opportunities for trade, investment and regional connectivity.
Describing Tripura as being strategically positioned at the intersection of connectivity, commerce and opportunity, the Union Minister said Agartala is emerging as a gateway to the ASEAN region, offering businesses access to a market of over 670 million people.
Scindia highlighted Tripura’s strengths, including abundant reserves of natural gas, bamboo, agarwood, rubber, tea, spices and horticultural produce, a skilled workforce, investor-friendly policies, expanding infrastructure and India’s third International Internet Gateway.
He said Tripura’s position as the country’s largest producer of bamboo and second-largest producer of natural rubber presents significant opportunities in manufacturing, food processing, value addition, logistics, exports and technology-driven industries.
Highlighting the Centre’s infrastructure push in the Northeast, Scindia referred to projects such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Transport Project, the Special Economic Zone at Sabroom, the Maitri Setu bridge and the Integrated Check Post, saying these initiatives are positioning Tripura as a major export hub for Southeast Asia.
Calling upon industry to seize emerging opportunities, the Minister said Tripura’s transformation from a landlocked state into a gateway to the Bay of Bengal reflects the broader development of the Northeast under the Modi government’s policies.
He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to the region and said the Ashtalakshmi States are poised to play a key role in India’s next phase of economic growth.
