Reliance Foundation Launches Multi-Sector Relief Operations for Assam Flood Victims

Guwahati, July 28 (TNT): Reliance Foundation has launched a comprehensive multi-sectoral relief and recovery programme for communities affected by the devastating floods in Upper Assam, with a target of assisting at least 10,000 flood-affected families in the worst-hit districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo.

The initiative is being implemented in coordination with government authorities following rapid on-ground needs assessments conducted by the Foundation’s disaster management teams.

According to the Foundation, the floods triggered by heavy rainfall and flash floods have affected over five lakh people in the two districts, causing loss of life, damage to homes, infrastructure and livelihoods, besides disrupting essential services and increasing public health risks.

As part of its relief operations, Reliance Foundation has begun restoring Community Health Centres to facilitate the resumption of healthcare services.

It is also supplying safe drinking water and hygiene and sanitation materials to displaced families to address public health concerns.

The Foundation has established community kitchens to provide cooked meals to families without access to food supplies and will also distribute dry ration kits to ensure continued nutritional support.

Emergency shelter kits containing tarpaulins, groundsheets, mosquito nets, ropes and bedding are also being distributed to displaced families.

In addition, a 39-member team from Vantara has been deployed to provide veterinary care, livestock protection and support for community animals.

The Foundation plans to provide feed support for around 4,000 livestock affected by the floods.

Reliance Foundation said it is working closely with district administrations, government departments, local community institutions and partner organisations to ensure timely delivery of relief and recovery assistance to affected families.
