Red Cross Cancer Hospital Nears Completion in Kakinada: Collector
Kakinada, July 29 (TNT): The Red Cross Cancer Hospital being constructed in Kakinada at an estimated cost of ₹7.5 crore is nearing completion, District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad said on Wednesday.
Addressing the annual general body meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society, Kakinada district branch, Harendhira , who is also the society’s president, said nearly 80 per cent of the construction work had been completed and the remaining works would be finished within the next few months.
He said efforts were also underway to establish a working women’s hostel in Kakinada.
The Collector said the Red Cross would continue implementing its various welfare initiatives, including the blood bank, cornea collection centre, skill development programmes, school for the differently abled, and women empowerment programmes, with support from donors and philanthropists.
He expressed hope that once the cancer hospital becomes operational, patients from the district would be able to access treatment locally, reducing their dependence on hospitals in other cities.
Harendhira lauded Red Cross district chairman Yarlagadda Dasaradha Ramarao for his contribution to the organisation’s activities.
The Collector also presented appreciation certificates and awards to officials and volunteers who mobilised donations for the Red Cross.
Red Cross Treasurer N.V.R. Prasada Babu, Secretary K. Sivakumar and others attended the meeting.
