PM Modi greets Bajaj Group on centenary; conglomerate marks 100 years in business
Mumbai, May 12 (TNT): The Bajaj Group on Tuesday commemorated 100 years in business, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending greetings to the conglomerate on its centenary milestone.
Founded in 1926 in Mumbai by freedom fighter, industrialist and philanthropist Jamnalal Bajaj, the group today serves one in three Indian households and employs over 1.3 lakh people.
The conglomerate, with a market capitalisation of USD 148 billion, has businesses spanning automobiles, financial services, consumer electronics and engineering.
In his message to the Bajaj family, the Prime Minister said the 100-year journey reflected not only longevity but also the ability to adapt to changing times and contribute to India’s economic growth.
“Started under the leadership of Shri Jamnalal Bajaj, the Bajaj Group has been a part of India’s industrial and economic landscape through many phases of our nation’s development,” Modi said, adding that institutions with deep roots and experience such as the Bajaj Group have an important role in shaping the journey towards Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The Prime Minister also noted that the group had played a key role in nation-building through job creation, innovation and community development over the decades.
The centenary celebrations were held at the National Sports Club of India in Mumbai and attended by members of the Bajaj family, industry leaders, Union and State ministers, political leaders, celebrities and business partners.
The event featured addresses by members of the Bajaj family, a live performance by Grammy award-winning composer Ricky Kej, the screening of a film on Jamnalal Bajaj and Mahatma Gandhi directed by Rajkumar Hirani, and the unveiling of the ‘100 years of Bajaj’ logo.
Speaking on the occasion, Niraj Bajaj, Chairman of Bajaj Auto, said the journeys of India and Bajaj had “never really been separate” and highlighted the group’s long-standing focus on self-reliance and nation-building.
Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, said the company had evolved into one of the world’s top three two-wheeler manufacturers, with exports to more than 100 countries and partnerships that demonstrated India’s emergence as a global manufacturing and innovation hub.
Sanjiv Bajaj, Chairman and Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv, said technology, innovation and India’s youth would shape the country’s next phase of growth, while emphasising the role of artificial intelligence in expanding financial inclusion.
The group said its social impact initiatives in youth skilling, employment, child health, education and protection have positively impacted over 10 million beneficiaries.
