Odisha-Hyderabad ganja supply chain busted, two interstate drug peddlers arrested
Hyderabad, Aug 17 (TNT): The Special Operations Team (SOT), LB Nagar Zone, in coordination with Nagole Police, busted an Odisha-Hyderabad ganja supply chain and arrested two interstate drug peddlers, seizing 23.02 kg of ganja worth Rs. 11.51 lakh.
The arrested persons were identified as Trinath Nirike (40), a driver from Koraput district of Odisha, and Sona Hunthal (28), also a driver from Koraput district.
Acting on credible information, the team intercepted two vehicles during vehicle checking near Bharath Petrol Pump at Nagole X Road on August 11, Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police B. Sumathi, said in a release here on Monday.
During the search, four packets of ganja were recovered from the dicky of a Toyota Innova, while two packets were found in the dicky of a Mahindra XUV 300. A total of 23.02 kg of ganja was seized from the two vehicles, she said.
Seized two mobile phones and two four-wheelers used for transporting the contraband.
The accused were friends and had planned to transport ganja to Hyderabad due to financial problems. They allegedly brought the contraband from Odisha for sale to customers in Hyderabad on the directions of a person identified as Kammu, a resident of Koraput district, the Commissioner said.
The investigation is continuing and efforts are underway to trace Kammu, who is absconding, and identify other persons involved in the supply chain, she said.
The operation was carried out as part of sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking, disrupt the supply chain and identify drug peddlers and consumers, the Commissioenr added.
