Odisha-Hyderabad ganja supply chain busted, two held
Hyderabad, Aug 12 (TNT): The Special Operations Team (SOT) of LB Nagar Zone, in coordination with Nagole Police, busted an inter-state ganja supply chain from Odisha to Hyderabad and arrested two persons, besides seizing 23.02 kg of ganja worth Rs 11.51 lakh, police said on Wednesday.
The arrested were identified as Trinath Nirike(40), and Sona Hunthal(28), both drivers and residents of Koraput district in Odisha.
Acting on credible information, police intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers AP31AJ3312 and OD05AX5899 near Bharath Petrol Pump at Nagole X Road on August 11.
During searches, four packets of ganja were recovered from the dicky of a Toyota Innova and two packets from the dicky of a Mahindra XUV 300, police said in a release here.
Two mobile phones and the two vehicles allegedly used for transporting the contraband were also seized.
According to police, the accused were friends and had allegedly taken up ganja transportation due to financial problems.
They had brought the contraband from Odisha for supplying it to customers in Hyderabad along with a person identified as Kammu of Koraput district, who is currently absconding.
The accused allegedly transported the ganja in the two vehicles as per Kammu’s instructions and concealed it in the vehicle compartments.
A case was registered at Nagole Police Station under Section 8(c) read with 20(b)(ii)(C) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Police said efforts were underway to trace the absconding supplier and identify other persons involved in the supply chain.
The arrests were made under the supervision of Malkajgiri Commissioner of Police B Sumathi and the guidance of LB Nagar Zone DCP B Anuradha, SOT DCP K Manohar and Additional DCP MD Shakir Hussain.
Police appealed to the public to share information about drug-related activities and said sustained efforts were being made to disrupt narcotics supply networks.
