No Place for Regional Hatred in Today’s Politics, AP CM Naidu
Amaravati, June 4 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said attempts to revive regional animosities between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would not succeed, asserting that politics should focus on development and public service rather than creating divisions among people.
Responding to recent remarks made against Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan in Telangana, Naidu said such statements were unnecessary and could create avoidable tensions between the people of the two Telugu-speaking states.
“It has been twelve years since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. We have moved forward as two separate states. At this stage, attempts to provoke regional sentiments and create divisions will not succeed,” he said.
The Chief Minister pointed out that political leaders frequently campaign beyond their home states in a democratic country and said such participation should not be viewed through a regional lens.
He cited examples of leaders campaigning in different states, including Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Naidu also noted that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had expanded beyond Telangana and expressed national ambitions, questioning objections to leaders engaging with people across state boundaries.
Emphasising the achievements of Telugu people globally, Naidu said individuals from the Telugu community have risen to leadership and constitutional positions in countries such as the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
“Politics should be about development and public service, not about creating divisions among people,” he remarked, adding that Andhra Pradesh and Telangana should compete in governance, development and service delivery rather than indulge in controversies.
The Chief Minister also criticised the YSR Congress Party (YCP) over its allegations regarding recent District Selection Committee (DSC) teacher recruitments, accusing the opposition of indulging in baseless criticism and misinformation campaigns.
He asserted that the government had fulfilled its election promise by prioritising DSC recruitments and that the process was conducted transparently and strictly in accordance with prescribed rules.
Referring to allegations concerning sports quota appointments, Naidu said recruitments were carried out in line with Government of India guidelines and eligibility criteria, dismissing criticism as politically motivated.
He urged opposition parties to study issues thoroughly before making allegations and said constructive politics should be based on facts and evidence.
Naidu also expressed disappointment over criticism of welfare initiatives such as Yoga Andhra 2026, stating that the programme was aimed at improving public health and wellness.
“Our focus remains on good governance, transparency, welfare and development. Ultimately, people will judge governments based on performance and results,” the Chief Minister added.
