Nine held for alleged blackbuck hunting, meat transportation in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Sept. 28 (TNT): Nine persons were apprehended by Shadnagar Police, the Special Operations Team (SOT) and Forest Department officials on Monday for allegedly hunting a blackbuck in Narayanpet district and transporting its meat to Hyderabad.
The case was detected within 24 hours under the supervision of Future City Police Commissioner Dr. Tarun Joshi, police said in a release.
The accused were intercepted near Raikal Toll Plaza while travelling towards Hyderabad.
The joint team seized around 13 kg of blackbuck meat, a .315 rifle fitted with a telescopic sight and silencer, 19 rounds of ammunition, two vehicles, eight smartphones, a camera, two torch lights and Rs. 28,590 in cash.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the accused had allegedly travelled to the Marikal forest area near Narayanpet, where the blackbuck was hunted, before transporting its meat towards Hyderabad.
A case was registered under POR No. 15 under Sections 9, 39, 50, 51 and 57 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and Section 30 of the Arms Act.
Further investigation is in progress.
Shadnagar DCP C. Sirisha Raghavendra appreciated the coordinated efforts of the police, SOT and Forest Department personnel. Ranga Reddy District Forest Officer Shiv Aasheesh Singh, IFS, was also part of the operation.
