Modi’s leadership driven by service to nation, not power: Telangana Governor
Hyderabad, Sept 12 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership was guided by a commitment to serving the nation rather than seeking office or power.
Speaking at the launch of young lawyer Amber Agarwal’s book Governance of the Self: 75 Lessons in Leadership, Discipline, and Service here, the Governor said self-discipline, restraint, sense of duty and selfless service were the foundations of effective leadership and good governance.
Shukla said leadership begins with the ability to govern oneself and those seeking to guide society should first practise the values they advocate. Positions and power were temporary, while service to society and the nation remained enduring, he said.
Referring to Modi’s leadership, the Governor said the Prime Minister had consistently placed national interests above personal considerations. He said Modi, while receiving the highest civilian honours from several countries, had described them as recognition for India rather than personal achievements.
Emphasising perseverance, Shukla said sustained effort was more important than intensity and urged people in public life, administration and society to cultivate discipline, duty and a spirit of selfless service.
He called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to contribute to building a developed India by 2047 and urged them to ask themselves what they could do for the nation, while placing national interests above personal considerations.
Former Union Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey, former DGP Arvind Rao and social activist Temsutula Imsong said the book would help promote discipline, service and leadership qualities among youth.
MPs Dharmapuri Arvind, Aruna and Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, MLAs Rakesh Reddy and Dhanpal Suryanarayana, besides educationists and other dignitaries, attended the programme.
