Kakinada police launch special drive against drunk driving
The drive was conducted under the instructions of Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav by a traffic police team led by Traffic Inspector N. Ramesh.
During the inspections, police found several drivers continuing their journeys without adequate rest, raising concerns over the risk of road accidents, particularly during the early morning hours.
Besides booking drunk-driving cases and imposing fines, the police counselled drivers on the dangers of fatigue and prolonged, uninterrupted driving.
Under the ‘stop, wash and go’ initiative, drivers were provided with water and advised to wash their faces and take a short rest before resuming their journeys.
The police urged motorists to ensure adequate sleep before starting long journeys, wear seat belts and strictly follow traffic rules.
They also cautioned drivers against travelling in the wrong direction, even for short distances.
Traffic Inspector N. Ramesh said the ‘stop, wash and go’ initiative was aimed at reducing road accidents, many of which occur during the early morning hours.
He urged drivers to prioritise road safety and remember their families while driving, stressing that every life was precious.
