Kakinada: Medway Sanjivani Hospitals organises walkathon to mark World Heart Day

Kakinada, Sept. 29 (TNT): Medway Sanjivani Hospitals organised a walkathon through the main streets of Kakinada on Tuesday to mark World Heart Day and raise awareness about heart health under the slogan “Healthy Heart, Healthy Family and Healthy Society”.

MLC Karri Padmasri, KAUDA chairman Thalatam Satya and MLC Perabathula Rajasekhar inaugurated the walkathon by lighting a lamp at the hospital premises.

The rally passed through the main streets before culminating in a public meeting at the Zilla Parishad Centre.

During the meeting, doctors demonstrated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and explained its importance in saving lives during medical emergencies, particularly in the crucial initial minutes following cardiac arrest.

Addressing the gathering, the public representatives expressed concern over people neglecting their health amid the pressures and competition of modern life, which they said contributed to stress and related health risks.

Doctors stressed the importance of regular physical exercise, monitoring blood pressure and blood sugar levels, managing stress and avoiding smoking and alcohol to maintain heart health.

They also cautioned people against self-medication based on information found on the internet, particularly in cases of chest pain. Anyone experiencing sudden chest pain should seek immediate medical attention at the nearest hospital, they advised.

Janasena leader Srimannarayana, hospital centre head Govindu, medical officers, hospital staff and a large number of local residents participated in the walkathon.
