JNTUK inks pact with Greenko, IIT-Hyderabad for sustainable engineering
Kakinada, Aug 11 (TNT): Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK), Greenko and the Greenko School of Sustainability (GSS), IIT-Hyderabad, have entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen education, research, skill development and industry-academia collaboration in sustainable engineering.
The MoU will provide academic and industry support for the M.Tech programme in Sustainable Engineering (Energy Technologies), to be launched by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, JNTUK, university sources said on Tuesday.
JNTUK Registrar Prof R Srinivasa Rao, IIT-Hyderabad Prof Ch Subrahmanyam and Greenko Dr Paravastu Rambabu signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.
Dr K Padmaraju, Senior Professor and Principal, University College of Engineering, Kakinada, and Dr K Venkata Reddy, Professor and Head, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, JNTUK, signed as witnesses. Dr GVR Prasada Raju, Senior Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, JNTUK, coordinated the programme.
Under the MoU, JNTUK will implement a multidisciplinary curriculum in Sustainable Engineering, covering core and elective areas such as sustainable infrastructure, energy systems and industrial processes.
The Greenko School of Sustainability and IIT-Hyderabad will provide academic expertise, curriculum guidance, faculty training, guest lectures and joint research mentorship.
Greenko will provide scholarships to 10 M.Tech students every year, with each student receiving Rs 10,000 per month for two years. The scholarship support will be extended to students belonging to the first four batches of the programme.
In addition, two PhD students every year pursuing research in sustainability-related areas will receive doctoral fellowships of Rs 40,000 per month for four years. The fellowships will be applicable to the first two batches of PhD scholars.
The partnership will also establish an Industry Chair Professor position for five years to further strengthen interaction between academia and industry.
The M.Tech programme will be linked with Greenko’s industrial zones and ventures in Kakinada, providing students opportunities for live projects, internships and industry mentorship.
Speaking on the occasion, JNTUK Vice-Chancellor Prof CSRK Prasad said sustainability, renewable energy, green technologies and energy storage were emerging as critical areas in future engineering education.
The objective of JNTUK was not merely to prepare students for employment but also to nurture them as researchers, technology professionals and future leaders capable of contributing to the country’s sustainable development, he said.
