Integrate Yoga with Sanjeevani Initiative for Better Public Health: AP CM Naidu

Amaravati, June 17 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday directed officials to integrate yoga with the state’s Sanjeevani public health initiative and take the practice to every household as part of a broader strategy to promote preventive healthcare and wellness.

Reviewing arrangements for the upcoming International Yoga Day celebrations at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister stressed the need to transform Yogandhra into a mass movement and ensure the successful conduct of yoga programmes across the state.

Naidu instructed officials to provide all necessary facilities for participants and ensure smooth organisation of Yoga Day events scheduled on June 21.

He suggested that outstanding yoga master trainers be honoured with special awards during next year’s International Yoga Day celebrations and called for the preparation of a year-long action plan with the theme “Yoga for Every Household.”

Emphasising the role of yoga in addressing health issues and chronic ailments, the Chief Minister directed officials to design and implement a dedicated Therapeutic Yoga Programme for individuals requiring specialised wellness support.

As part of the celebrations, renowned yoga guru Baba Ramdev will participate in a yoga programme along with the Chief Minister near the Undavalli Caves on June 20.

The state-level International Yoga Day event will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium in Vijayawada on June 21.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that arrangements are being made for the participation of 5,000 to 6,000 people at the stadium event. Both Naidu and Baba Ramdev are expected to attend the programme.

As a contingency measure in case of adverse weather conditions, alternative arrangements have been made to conduct the event at Ambedkar Kala Vedika with around 1,000 participants.

Officials also informed the Chief Minister that Baba Ramdev will arrive in Andhra Pradesh on June 19 and is scheduled to meet him before the celebrations.

According to officials, 2.6 lakh trainers have already been trained under the Yogandhra initiative, while registrations for Yoga Day events across the state have crossed one crore participants.

State-level yoga competitions will be organised in Vijayawada from June 18 to 20 as part of the lead-up to International Yoga Day.

The Chief Minister was informed that yoga programmes would be conducted at 1.33 lakh centres across Andhra Pradesh on June 21, making it one of the largest coordinated yoga outreach efforts in the country.

On the occasion, Naidu will also release the “Yoga @ Destination” Calendar, outlining yoga-related activities and destinations planned across the state until the next International Yoga Day.

Government Advisor Manthena Satyanarayana Raju, Health, Medical and Family Welfare Commissioner Chakradhar Babu, NTR District Collector Lakshmi Sha, AYUSH Director Ronanki Gopalakrishna and other senior officials attended the review meeting.
