Indian Coast Guard rescues 170 people from flood-hit areas of Gujarat, DNH and Daman
New Delhi, July 25 (TNT): The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in coordination with the civil administration, has rescued 170 people stranded in flood-hit areas of Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and South Gujarat through 11 rescue operations conducted since the midnight of July 22 amid heavy rain, severe flooding and adverse weather conditions.
The rescue operations began during the night of July 22-23 with the evacuation of five stranded persons from Khanvel in Silvassa, followed by the rescue of three fishermen trapped along the flooded riverbank in the Kadaiya coastal area.
In one of the largest operations, Coast Guard teams rescued 60 people stranded in the flood-affected Welspun Industrial Area during the night of July 23-24 after road connectivity was completely cut off.
Subsequent operations included the rescue of seven persons from a bus stranded in floodwaters near Aero Fibre Pvt. Ltd., evacuation of 10 persons from Dongri, helicopter rescue of four stranded persons from the Valsad-Pardi area, and overnight evacuation of eight persons from the Reliance Industries area.
In another major operation, the Coast Guard rescued 10 people from the Avadh Society area, including a woman who was nine months pregnant and another suffering from respiratory distress, enabling them to receive timely medical treatment.
On July 24, two Indian Coast Guard helicopters airlifted 33 stranded persons from Mendar village in Navsari district, including a person suffering from severe chest pain who was provided urgent medical assistance.
The Coast Guard said its personnel continued rescue operations despite incessant rainfall, strong currents and hazardous conditions, reaffirming the service’s motto, “Vayam Rakshamah” (We Protect).
The ICG said it remains fully committed to supporting the civil administration and continues to maintain a high level of operational readiness to respond to any further emergencies arising from the ongoing flood situation.
