India Post Expands Digital Services, Financial Inclusion in Telangana
Addressing a press conference at Dak Sadan here on the occasion of World Post Day, Murthy said Telangana Postal Circle recorded revenue of Rs. 596.71 crore in 2025-26 against a target of Rs. 661.88 crore, while revenue during the current financial year stood at Rs. 322.28 crore up to September 2026.
As part of National Postal Week, being observed from October 9 to 15, he highlighted the department’s technological advancements, last-mile delivery network and citizen-centric initiatives under the theme “One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities”.
India Post operates 1,64,999 post offices nationwide, including 1,49,385 in rural areas. Telangana Circle has 36 Head Post Offices, 759 Sub Post Offices and 5,424 Branch Post Offices, supported by 6,514 departmental employees and 10,623 Gramin Dak Sevaks, he said.
Highlighting digital transformation, Murthy said the rollout of APT 2.0, an indigenously developed technology platform, marked a significant milestone. DIGIPIN, a 10-character geo-coded digital addressing system developed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO, aims to improve address identification.
The Door Step Service application enables real-time delivery tracking. The 24 Speed Post and 48 Speed Post services, introduced in Hyderabad on March 17, 2026, had handled more than 1.33 lakh articles, with time-bound delivery available for 94 PIN codes.
Post offices also accept UPI and card payments, while postmen can collect Cash on Delivery amounts through the application.
Telangana’s 14 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras facilitated 1,66,478 passport transactions during 2025-26 and another 87,100 up to September 2026.
The state’s 263 Aadhaar centres recorded 4,75,592 transactions in 2025-26 and 3,17,146 up to September 2026.
On financial inclusion, Murthy said Telangana Postal Circle had 1.07 crore active Post Office Savings Bank accounts as of March 31, 2026. The circle aims to bring 25 per cent of the state’s rural population under financial inclusion through postal services by the end of 2026-27 and enable digital transactions through at least 10 per cent of its savings bank accounts during the same period.
The department is also assisting StreeNidhi in collecting self-help group loan repayments through Branch Post Offices and facilitating doorstep delivery of prasadam under its Holy Blessing initiative.
Postal Life Insurance and Rural Postal Life Insurance recorded 71,233 new policies and premium collections of Rs. 590.13 crore in Telangana during 2025-26. PLI eligibility has been extended to professionals and graduates beyond government employees, while RPLI has also been extended to urban residents, he said.
Murthy said the department had issued 1,86,202 appointment and engagement offers nationwide across 17 Rozgar Mela tranches. In Telangana Circle, 1,272 candidates received offers, including 1,123 Gramin Dak Sevaks.
As part of National Postal Week, the department will organise activities highlighting its services and initiatives. Murthy also distributed prizes to Telangana Circle winners of the UPU International Letter Writing Competition 2026.
