IIIT Hyderabad and Athenian Tech to launch AI-Powered Cybersecurity initiative
Hyderabad, May 12 (TNT): International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-H), one of India’s premier autonomous deemed universities and Athenian Tech Private Limited, a leading digital risk management company specialising in AI and ML-powered cybersecurity solutions, have entered into a partnership to advance research, education and industry collaboration in cybersecurity, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and digital identity protection.
The collaboration was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Prof. U Deva Priyakumar, Dean (Research & Development), IIIT Hyderabad, and Dr Kanishk Gaur, Chief Executive Officer of Athenian Tech, the Institute said in a release here on Tuesday
Under the agreement, the two organisations will jointly work on capacity development initiatives through government-industry collaborations and promote awareness, training programmes, workshops and stakeholder engagement in the cybersecurity sector.
The partnership will also focus on launching specialised courses aimed at harnessing the potential of AI and ML in cybersecurity, which both organisations described as a critical emerging domain.
Prof. U Deva Priyakumar said India had built significant digital infrastructure and now needed to invest equally in securing it.
“Cybersecurity powered by AI and ML is an urgent, complex and deeply consequential challenge. This partnership will help bridge the gap between research carried out in laboratories and real-world needs on the ground,” he said.
Dr Kanishk Gaur said the rapid evolution of cyber threats, including identity theft, ransomware, cryptojacking and advanced persistent threats, required a new generation of researchers and practitioners equipped with both theoretical and practical expertise.
He said the collaboration aimed to create joint courses, research and intellectual property that could serve as a benchmark for academia-industry cooperation in strengthening India’s cyber resilience.
Founded in 1998, IIIT Hyderabad is an autonomous research university known for interdisciplinary research in areas including Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, machine learning, robotics, data sciences, software engineering and digital technologies in healthcare.
