Hyderabad: Man arrested for allegedly throwing sticks at Dilsukhnagar’s temple idol

Hyderabad, Oct 3 (TNT): A 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly threw sticks towards the idol of Goddess Santhoshi Matha at Sri Santhoshi Matha Devasthanam in Dilsukhnagar here, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred between 9.50 am and 9.55 am on October 2.

The accused, identified as Md Abdul Ansari alias Abdullah Ansari, allegedly picked up sticks from the temple premises and threw them towards the idol, a police release said here.

Devotees and temple staff immediately restrained him, following which Chaitanyapuri police reached the spot after receiving a Dial-112 call and took him into custody.

Based on a complaint lodged by temple president Potel Srinivas Yadav, a case was registered under Sections 298, 299, 300, 329(4), 324 and 333 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Chaitanyapuri Police Station.

The accused was arrested on October 2, produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.

Police said the investigation was underway.

Police said Ansari, an Electronic Engineer from Sangareddy who resides in New York, had come to India around four months ago and was temporarily staying in Hyderabad.

His reported treatment for a mental-health condition is being verified as part of the investigation, the release added.
