GMR Aero Technic, Boeing Defence India Sign Pact for P-8I Heavy Maintenance Checks
Hyderabad, May 14 (TNT): GMR Aero Technic on Thursday announced that it has signed an agreement with Boeing Defence India Private Limited to undertake Phase-56 Heavy Maintenance Checks for the Indian Navy’s Boeing P-8I maritime patrol aircraft fleet.
Under the agreement, GMR Aero Technic will carry out Phase-56 heavy maintenance checks on the P-8I aircraft at its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility located within the GMR Aerospace Park SEZ in Hyderabad.
The maintenance programme will include structural upgrades, comprehensive inspections, painting and system upgrades in line with Boeing and defence aviation maintenance standards.
President of GMR Aero Technic, Ashok Gopinath, described the partnership as a significant milestone for the company and said it further strengthens its long-standing relationship with Boeing.
He said the agreement marks GMR Aero Technic’s first major engagement supporting a frontline defence aircraft platform and reflects confidence in the company’s technical capabilities and skilled workforce.
“This agreement reinforces our long-term vision of building India into a global defence MRO hub and establishing GMR Aero Technic as a trusted provider of complex military aircraft sustainment solutions,” he said.
Managing Director of Boeing Defence India, Nikhil Joshi, said the collaboration reflects Boeing’s commitment to strengthening India’s defence MRO ecosystem and supporting mission readiness.
He said the partnership builds on Boeing’s long-standing efforts to develop indigenous aerospace and defence capabilities in India through investments in manufacturing, research and development, sustainment services and talent development.
The Boeing P-8I is a long-range maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft used for anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
The Indian Navy currently operates a fleet of 12 P-8I aircraft deployed at INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu and INS Hansa in Goa.
