FTCCI Seeks Power Tariff Relief, Reliable Supply for Industries; TGSPDCL to Consider Advance Outage Alerts

Hyderabad, Oct 17 (TNT): The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) on Saturday sought power tariff relief, reduction in delayed payment surcharges and improved supply reliability for industries, while the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) agreed to consider advance alerts on scheduled power interruptions and introduce dedicated managers to address industrial consumers’ grievances.

The decisions emerged at the sixth consecutive monthly stakeholders’ meeting between FTCCI and TGSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil, at Federation House here.

More than 45 representatives, including senior utility officials, industry associations, FTCCI office-bearers and KPMG consultants, attended the meeting.

Representatives of process industries highlighted production losses caused by power interruptions and requested advance notice of scheduled outages.

TGSPDCL agreed to consider sending SMS and email alerts to enable industries to plan their operations.

FTCCI sought an extension of the collection period for the two-hour fuel surcharge from 29 to 48 months, a reduction in the delayed payment surcharge from 18 per cent compounded to 12 per cent, and a six-month waiver of the additional surcharge on Open Access.

The meeting also reviewed a proposed One-Time Settlement scheme for legacy surcharge dues. A financial assessment is underway, with a filing before the Electricity Regulatory Commission expected by November 30, 2026, with KPMG’s support.

In a move to improve grievance redressal, Patil agreed to issue a formal circular within a week on appointing dedicated Operations Service Managers and Key Account Managers for high-tension industrial consumers.

The initiative is intended to address power supply, operational and billing issues. An orientation session with FTCCI will follow.

Industries can also raise customer service concerns through customerservice@tgsouthernpower.org.

The discussions covered delays in rooftop solar net metering approvals, behind-the-meter solar installations, net billing and time-of-day charges for solar generator supply.

FTCCI will submit two to three documented cases of delayed approvals to help TGSPDCL identify bottlenecks.

The CMD also agreed to review the implementation timeline for time-of-day charges.

TGSPDCL is procuring four to five power quality meters to improve transparency in Open Access no-objection certificate testing.

The meeting further explored solar power and battery storage solutions for gated communities to reduce electricity costs for common facilities.

A dedicated workshop involving gated community associations, solar and battery solution providers, FTCCI and other stakeholders was proposed, with KPMG assisting in its organisation.

Other issues discussed included voltage fluctuations, transformer overloads, tree-cutting-related power interruptions, removal of high-tension classification flags, auxiliary consumption conversion and high electricity bills. TGSPDCL agreed to follow up on pending grievances, examine infrastructure improvements and consider third-party energy audits to verify billing accuracy.

Feeder and transformer enhancement works are targeted for completion by December 31, 2026.

Patil assured industry representatives of the utility’s continued support in addressing grievances and improving service delivery.

FTCCI expressed confidence that the agreed action points would strengthen coordination between the power utility and industry and support Telangana’s industrial growth.

Those present included TGSPDCL Director (Commercial) Chakrapani and Director (Finance) Krishna Reddy, FTCCI President K. K. Maheshwari, Vice-President Vinod Kumar Agarwal and Energy Committee Chairman Sushil Kumar Sancheti.
