Former Governor Dattatreya Pays Tributes to Chakali Ailamma, Seeks SC Status for Rajaka Community
Hyderabad, Sept 26 (TNT): Former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya paid tributes to freedom fighter Chakali Ailamma at Lower Tank Bund here on Saturday on the occasion of her birth anniversary.
Dattatreya recalled Ailamma’s courage in resisting landlords, opposing forced labour (vetti chakiri) and fighting for land and the self-respect of the people of Telangana.
He said her role in the armed struggle and her fight against social injustice continued to inspire women and the younger generation.
He said Ailamma demonstrated that women could challenge social injustices and fight for their rights.
He called upon people to follow her ideals and work towards equality, social justice and self-respect.
On the occasion, Dattatreya urged the government to address the demands of the Rajaka community including inclusion of the community in the Scheduled Castes (SC) list, installation of a statue of Chakali Ailamma on Tank Bund, and immediate construction of a building on land allotted to the community at Medipally.
He also sought hostel facilities for Rajaka students and a special medical scheme for the community, citing health risks associated with their traditional occupation of washing soiled clothes.
High Court Judge Justice Surepalli Nanda, BJP city general secretary Mallampeta Ramesh Ram, Telangana Rajaka Development Corporation chairman Narsimha, general secretary Jupalli Rajasekhar, and others attended the event.
