Former Andhra Pradesh Minister Gade Venkata Reddy Passes, CM condoles
Hyderabad, May 29 (TNT): Senior Congress leader and former united Andhra Pradesh Minister Gade Venkata Reddy passed away at his residence here on Friday.
He was 81.
Born into a political family, he emerged as one of the influential leaders from the coastal Andhra region and served as a five-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), representing the Parchur and Bapatla constituencies.
A veteran politician with a career spanning several decades, Gade Venkata Reddy played a prominent role in Andhra Pradesh politics and was widely respected across party lines for his administrative experience and public service.
During his long political career, he held several important ministerial portfolios in successive Congress governments.
He served as Minister for Cooperation, Excise and Prohibition, and Endowments under the chief ministerships of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Konijeti Rosaiah, and Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy.
His tenure was marked by active involvement in rural development, cooperative sector reforms, and temple administration.
For most of his political life, Gade Venkata Reddy remained a loyal member of the Indian National Congress and was regarded as one of the party’s senior-most leaders in Andhra Pradesh.
Following the political realignments that emerged after the bifurcation of the state, he joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2016.
Later, in 2020, he shifted his allegiance to the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow upon learning of the passing of Congress senior leader Gade Venkat Reddy, who served as minister in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.
In a condolence message, the Chief Minister recalled that Venkat Reddy was elected MLA five times and also held various portfolios as Minister efficiently.
Describing the departed Congress leader as a person renowned for his gentle nature and patience, the Chief Minister noted that Venkat Reddy had undertaken numerous people’s welfare schemes during his stint as minister and Legislator.

Leaders from various political parties expressed grief over his demise and recalled his contribution to public life, legislative affairs, and the development of Andhra Pradesh.
Condolence messages poured in from across the political spectrum, with many describing him as an experienced administrator and a leader who maintained cordial relations beyond party boundaries.
