Five Godavari ghats to get facelift ahead of Pushkarams: Collector
Kakinada, Aug 25 (TNT): Five important ghats along the Godavari river bank in Kakinada district will be developed with improved infrastructure ahead of the ensuing Godavari Pushkarams, District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad said on Tuesday.
Reviewing arrangements for the Pushkarams with district officials at the Collectorate here, the Collector directed officials to identify key ghats and take advance measures to provide basic amenities for devotees.
He said 82 C-category ghats along Godavari canals spread across nine mandals in the district had been identified for development.
The Collector directed officials to prepare an advance action plan keeping in view the expected rush of devotees and arrangements for safety, sanitation, drinking water, electricity, medical facilities, toilets, parking and road connectivity.
Roads and Buildings Department officials were asked to inspect connectivity to the ghats and undertake necessary repairs, widening and other development works. Barricading, approach roads, safety measures and parking facilities should also be arranged in advance, he said.
The Collector further directed officials to improve connectivity from railway and bus stations to the ghats and install signboards to guide devotees.
The Police Department was asked to make traffic regulation arrangements, identify alternative routes for special services and set up helpline centres.
As part of the tourism development plan, the Collector directed the Tourism Department to prepare a circuit tourism plan linking important temples and tourist destinations in the district.
He asked all departments to identify works under their jurisdiction and prepare time-bound action plans for their execution.
District Revenue Officer Dr D Tippe Naik, Zilla Parishad CEO VVS Lakshmanarao, RWS SE Mohammed Abdul Mathin, District Medical and Health Officer Dr K Anitha, irrigation engineers and police officials attended the meeting.
