Farmers Felicitate CM Naidu for Pattiseema Project, Hail Him as ‘Waterman of AP’

Amaravati, Oct 10 (TNT): Farmers and irrigation association representatives on Saturday felicitated Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for implementing the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project, which they said had strengthened water security by facilitating the diversion of Godavari floodwaters to the Krishna basin.

The farmers, accompanied by Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu, met the Chief Minister at the Secretariat and thanked him for initiating the project ahead of the completion of the Polavaram project.

They said the diversion of Godavari water had helped meet irrigation requirements in the Krishna Delta while conserving Krishna river water for use in Rayalaseema.

The representatives said around 500 TMC of water had been diverted to the Krishna Delta over the past 11 years, according to the figures cited at the meeting.

They described Chandrababu Naidu as the ‘Waterman of Andhra Pradesh’ for his role in strengthening the State’s water security.

Responding to the farmers, the Chief Minister said the Pattiseema project had helped address irrigation challenges and contributed to agricultural prosperity.

By diverting Godavari floodwaters to the Krishna Delta, the State could conserve Krishna water in the Srisailam reservoir and divert it to Rayalaseema to meet irrigation and drinking water requirements, he said.

Naidu said improved water availability had enabled farmers in the Krishna Delta to cultivate crops more abundantly, contributing to the State’s economic development.

He recalled the cooperation extended by farmers in implementing the initiative and said the project’s success had given him considerable satisfaction.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of integrated water management in supporting industrial development, noting that improved water availability had helped meet the requirements of industries such as Kia in Rayalaseema.

He said the effective utilisation of available water resources was essential not only for resolving irrigation problems but also for ensuring drinking water supplies and supporting industrial growth across Andhra Pradesh.
