Electric Fishing Boat Trial Run successful in Kakinada: MLA
The boat was manufactured by Sura Ventures using foreign technology.
Kondababu, who attended the trial run as the chief guest, expressed happiness over its successful operation and described the initiative as a potential game-changer for the fishing sector.
He said electric boats could offer fishermen the dual benefits of pollution-free sailing and reduced fuel expenditure. Highlighting the high cost of diesel for marine fishing, the MLA said the existing fuel subsidy provided by the government was not sufficient to make fishing operations remunerative.
He expressed confidence that the introduction of electric fishing boats along the coast would help increase fishermen’s incomes.
However, Kondababu suggested that Sura Ventures develop larger boats with a carrying capacity of 15 tonnes to meet fishermen’s requirements, including storage space for ice, drinking water and fishing equipment.
He also assured the company representatives that he would bring the details of the electric fishing boat project and its feasibility to the notice of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for consideration, including the possibility of extending subsidies.
