Electing Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister is a Historical Necessity: Telangana CM
Hyderabad, July 4 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday said it was a “historical necessity” for the country to elect Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister and appealed to the people of Telangana to support the cause as a mark of gratitude to Sonia Gandhi for granting statehood to Telangana.
Addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation stones for several development works in Midjil mandal of Mahabubnagar district, the Chief Minister said the Congress would remain in power in Telangana until 2034 with the blessings of the people.
Referring to the changing political situation in the country, Revanth Reddy said Rahul Gandhi’s leadership was needed at the national level.
“The people of Telangana should support this cause. We must express our gratitude to Sonia Gandhi, who granted us the state of Telangana. The first step towards this goal should begin from Midjil itself,” he said.
Recalling his political association with Midjil, the Chief Minister said it was from the mandal that his political journey gained momentum after he was elected as a ZPTC member nearly two decades ago.
“The sapling planted by the people of Midjil has grown into a mighty tree that now stands before you as the Chief Minister,” he said.
Revanth Reddy said the district had produced several prominent leaders, including former Hyderabad State Chief Minister Burgula Ramakrishna Rao, veteran parliamentarian Jaipal Reddy and Dyapa Gopal Reddy.
He urged Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to adopt Midjil mandal and develop it into a model mandal.
Noting that Midjil and Gattu were once declared “Dark Mandals” because of severe groundwater depletion, the Chief Minister said the resolve taken by local people to transform the region had eventually paved the way for his own political rise and strengthened his commitment to develop the drought-prone Palamuru region.
Claiming that the Congress government was maintaining a balance between welfare and development, Revanth Reddy said his government was implementing programmes aimed at improving the lives of the poor despite criticism from the Opposition.
Launching a sharp attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and its president, former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), Revanth Reddy alleged that the party wanted to return to power because its avenues for corruption and profiteering had been closed.
He alleged that the previous BRS government had looted public money and left Telangana with a debt burden of around ₹8 lakh crore during its 10-year rule.
The Chief Minister also accused the previous government of failing to provide adequate irrigation facilities, employment opportunities for youth and promised welfare benefits, including double-bedroom houses and jobs.
Listing the welfare measures undertaken by the Congress government since assuming office in December 2023, Revanth Reddy said his government had implemented farm loan waivers, Rythu Bharosa, bonuses for fine-variety paddy, free bus travel for women, up to 200 units of free electricity for eligible households and the supply of fine-quality rice to poor families.
He said the state government had paid ₹80,000 crore to farmers towards paddy procurement and accused BRS leaders of corruption in several welfare programmes during their tenure.
The Chief Minister asserted that the Congress government would continue to pursue welfare and development while seeking the continued support of the people.
