DTO Killed After Coal-Laden Tipper Hits Him During Vehicle Inspection in Bhupalpally
Bhupalpally (Telangana), June 22 (TNT): Jayashankar Bhupalpally District Transport Officer (DTO) Venkanna was killed after a coal-laden tipper lorry allegedly rammed into him while he was conducting vehicle inspections at Chelpur in Ganapuram mandal on the Parakala–Bhupalpally highway on Monday.
According to police, the incident occurred near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) when Venkanna and his staff were carrying out routine checks on vehicles.
The 47-year-old officer died on the spot, while his official vehicle was partially damaged.
A native of Hanamkonda and a 2012-batch transport officer, Venkanna had recently been transferred to Bhupalpally district from Jagtial.
Police rushed to the spot, took the tipper driver into custody, registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep shock over the officer’s death. In a statement, he conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and assured all possible support from the government.
The Chief Minister directed Joint Commissioner (Transport) Chandrashekhar Goud to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident and submit a report.
BRS Legislature Party Deputy Leader T. Harish Rao demanded a thorough investigation, alleging possible involvement of sand and coal mafias.
In a statement, Rao questioned whether the incident was a mere accident or a premeditated murder and sought a detailed probe into the circumstances leading to Venkanna’s death.
