DRI seizes 17 kg of elephant tusks, ivory articles; three held
Hyderabad, Sept 30 (TNT) : The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad, has seized four elephant tusks weighing around 17 kg, along with intricately carved ivory articles, and apprehended three persons allegedly involved in their illegal sale, the agency said on Thursday.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted the three persons while a sale transaction involving the tusks and ivory articles was underway.
The tusks and carved ivory articles were seized under the relevant provisions of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, which prohibits trade in elephant ivory and articles made from it, the Agency said in a release here.
The DRI has been conducting intelligence-based operations across the country to curb the illegal trafficking and trade of wildlife, trophies and articles derived from protected species.
The latest seizure reflects the agency’s continued efforts to combat wildlife crime and support conservation efforts.
