DRDO Successfully Demonstrates Multi-Layered Missile Defence, Anti-Ship Missile Capabilities

New Delhi,  June 13 (TNT): The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated a series of critical defence technologies, including a multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system and a medium-range anti-ship missile, significantly enhancing India’s strategic defence capabilities.

According to an official statement, three consecutive flight tests were conducted on June 10 and 11 to validate the country’s ability to counter a range of aerial and missile threats through advanced indigenous systems.

As part of the trials, DRDO successfully demonstrated its multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence capability, with interceptor missiles accurately engaging and neutralising their designated targets.

The systems have been developed using advanced technologies to address evolving missile threats.

Officials said the successful tests place India among a select group of nations possessing Ballistic Missile Defence capability capable of engaging threats up to the level of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).

In another major milestone, DRDO successfully carried out the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR), designed to strengthen the Navy’s anti-surface warfare capabilities.

The flight trials were witnessed by senior officials from DRDO and the armed forces.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and all stakeholders involved in the successful demonstration of the advanced technologies.

Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh closely monitored the trials and commended the efforts of DRDO scientists, engineers and industry partners for the achievement.

The successful demonstrations mark a significant step forward in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defence technology and its efforts to strengthen national security through indigenous capability development.
