Delhi Redz Launch Women’s Team for Rugby Premier League Season 2
New Delhi, June 16 (TNT): Delhi Redz has launched a women’s team ahead of the second season of the Rugby Premier League (RPL), marking a significant step in the franchise’s efforts to promote rugby and expand opportunities for women athletes in India.
The women’s competition, featuring four franchises, will be held in Hyderabad from June 16 to 23, 2026, marking the first time a national-level women’s tournament is being conducted under the Rugby Premier League banner.
The Delhi Redz women’s squad combines international and Indian talent, with players from Brazil, Fiji, Canada and South Africa joining some of India’s emerging rugby stars. The team will be coached by Brazil’s Edwin Cocker, with Arun Dagar serving as assistant coach.
The franchise said the launch of the women’s team aligns with its broader vision of growing rugby in India and creating a sustainable sporting ecosystem beyond competitive success.
Delhi Redz leaders Sidharth and Mihir Menda said the club was established not merely as a rugby team but as a platform to inspire a new generation of Indian athletes.
They noted that the women’s team would help provide visibility, opportunities and pathways for talented female players across the country.
The move comes at a time when women’s rugby in India is witnessing rapid growth.
According to the franchise, participation in the sport has increased by 66 per cent since 2019, while India’s Under-18 and Under-20 women’s national teams have emerged among the strongest in Asia.
Delhi Redz said the women’s team would serve as a platform for elite athletes while also encouraging greater participation at the grassroots level through schools, colleges and community programmes.
With both men’s and women’s teams now competing under the Delhi Redz banner, the franchise said it aims to contribute to the long-term development of rugby in India by promoting inclusivity, athlete development and broader public engagement with the sport.
