Cygni Energy, Indus Towers sign MoU to explore energy storage solutions
Hyderabad, Oct 5 (TNT): Cygni Energy Private Limited and Indus Towers Limited on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration on energy storage solutions for telecom infrastructure in India.
Under the MoU, the companies will explore establishing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing capacity of up to 1.5 GWh to meet the evolving energy requirements of the telecom sector.
The proposed collaboration will also evaluate advanced battery technologies for telecom applications aimed at improving reliability and energy efficiency and supporting more sustainable operations.
In a release, Cygni Energy Founder and CEO Venkat Rajaraman said the initiative would focus on building the scale, technology capabilities and manufacturing readiness required to meet the changing energy needs of telecom infrastructure.
He said Cygni planned to develop capacity of up to 2 GWh and build a portfolio ranging from 100Ah solutions to higher-capacity 314Ah systems and emerging battery technologies.
IIT Madras Institute Professor and ITEL Foundation Chairman Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala said collaboration among users, startups, manufacturers and technology institutions could support the development and adoption of energy storage solutions in India.
The telecom sector provides an important application for advancing battery technologies and manufacturing capabilities, he said.
The companies said the collaboration could support indigenous innovation, strengthen supply-chain resilience and accelerate the adoption of next-generation energy storage solutions as India expands its digital and energy infrastructure.
Incubated at IIT Madras, Cygni develops energy-storage products for telecom, stationary energy storage, mobility and other applications.
The company is expanding its manufacturing capabilities to meet the growing demand for battery energy-storage systems in India.
