Coal Ministry invites applications for Rs.37,500-cr coal gasification scheme
New Delhi, July 8 (TNT): The Ministry of Coal has invited applications under the Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects, approved by the Union Government with a financial outlay of ₹37,500 crore to promote coal gasification and strengthen domestic energy and chemical production.
The scheme, approved on May 13, 2026, aims to encourage surface coal and lignite gasification projects to enhance value addition, reduce import dependence and support the country’s goal of achieving self-reliance in the energy and chemical sectors.
In a release, the Ministry said the scheme guidelines were issued on June 25, followed by the publication of the Request for Proposal (RFP) on July 7, inviting eligible entities to submit project proposals.
To facilitate stakeholder participation and clarify the provisions of the scheme and the application process, the Ministry will organise a pre-application conference on July 20.
Prospective applicants and other stakeholders have been encouraged to participate and seek clarifications on the scheme.
The last date for submission of applications is September 7, 2026.
The Ministry said the Scheme Guidelines, Request for Proposal (RFP) and the detailed application timeline have been made available on its official website for interested applicants.
