Centre Backs RINL Revival; Kumaraswamy Calls for Time-Bound Reforms to Boost Capacity

Visakhapatnam, Mar 23 (TNT): Union Minister for Steel & Heavy Industries, H. D. Kumaraswamy on Monday said Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, holds a crucial position in India’s steel sector and called for time-bound measures to enhance capacity utilisation, ensure raw material linkages and improve techno-economic efficiency.

Reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to the revival and growth of RINL, the Union Minister, accompanied by Minister of State Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, visited key facilities including Coke Oven Batteries, Blast Furnace and the Wire Rod Mill, and interacted with employees across departments.

Kumaraswamy appreciated the workforce for their dedication and lauded the plant’s performance, noting improved production levels this year.

During his visit to Blast Furnace-3, he commended employees for their commitment and expressed confidence in making RINL one of the best steel plants in the country.

A detailed review meeting was later held with CMD Manish Raj Gupta and senior officials, focusing on production optimisation, operational efficiency, sustainability initiatives and raw material security.

The Union Minister stressed strict monitoring, accountability and adoption of best practices to streamline operations.

Aligning with the vision of Narendra Modi, he said the government remains committed to achieving 300 million tonnes steel capacity by 2030, net-zero targets by 2070 and the broader goal of Viksit Bharat 2047 under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Expressing confidence in RINL’s future, Kumaraswamy assured all possible support from the Centre, stating that the organisation would overcome current challenges through focused execution and collective effort.

The Union Ministers also interacted with trade unions, employees’ associations and other stakeholders at Ukkunagaram, assuring that their concerns would be addressed.

Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat and Gajuwaka MLA and AP Telugu Desam Party President Palla Srinivasa Rao also interacted with the Ministers and RINL management.

In his address, Srinivasa Varma called upon employees to work with renewed commitment to restore RINL’s past glory and achieve new milestones.

Senior officials, including directors and executives, were present.
