CBI arrests two senior BSNL engineers in bribery case
Bhopal, Aug 27 (TNT): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested two senior BSNL engineers in a bribery case involving a demand for Rs 2 lakh each.
The accused have been identified as Chief Engineer (Electrical) and Superintendent Engineer (Electrical), both posted at BSNL, Bhopal.
The CBI registered a case on August 27 following allegations that the accused had demanded an undue advantage of Rs 2 lakh each from a Jabalpur-based firm, which was executing Operation & Comprehensive Maintenance (OCM) and electrical installation-related work for BSNL.
In a release, the CBI, the accused allegedly demanded the bribe for processing pending bills related to 14 different works.
The agency laid a trap and caught both accused BSNL officials red-handed while accepting Rs 75,000 in cash as part payment of the demanded bribe of Rs 2 lakh each.
Searches are being conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused in Bhopal, Lucknow and Kanpur.
The investigation in the case is continuing, the CBI added.
