CBI arrests Post Office Official in UP Bribery Case
Lucknow, Aug 8 (TNT):The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested an Office Assistant at Bighapur Post Office in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, in an alleged bribery case, the agency said.
The CBI registered the case on August 7, 2026, based on a complaint alleging that the complainant had availed an Rs 10 lakh loan from Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank, Bhagwant Nagar, under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to set up a bakery.
According to the complaint, a subsidy of Rs 3.495 lakh had been credited to the bank account. The accused Office Assistant allegedly demanded Rs 35,000 from the complainant for verification of his unit in connection with the loan subsidy.
The CBI laid a trap on August 8 and allegedly apprehended the official red-handed while demanding and accepting a Rs 25,000 bribe from the complainant.
The arrested official will be produced before the competent court in Lucknow, the agency added.
