BJP’s Himanta Biswa Sarma Takes Oath as Assam Chief Minister for Second Consecutive Term
Guwahati, May 12 (TNT): Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday took oath as the Chief Minister of Assam for a second consecutive term at a grand swearing-in ceremony held at the Veterinary Ground in Khanapara, Guwahati.
The BJP-led NDA government has returned to power in Assam for a third consecutive term. Sarma, who first assumed office in 2021, has become the first non-Congress leader in the state to serve two consecutive terms as Chief Minister.
Along with Sarma, four legislators were sworn in as ministers, including BJP leaders Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog, AGP leader Atul Bora and BPF leader Charan Boro.
Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Chief Minister and ministers at the ceremony attended by several national and state leaders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and Sarbananda Sonowal were present at the event.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-ruled states also attended the ceremony.
Ahead of the swearing-in, Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on social media seeking the blessings of Maa Kamakhya and Srimanta Sankardev for peace, progress and prosperity in Assam.
In the recently concluded Assembly elections, the NDA secured a record 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Assembly, with the BJP winning 82 seats, while its allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front won 10 seats each.
