BJP Telangana Chief condemns police action at HYDRAA Recruitment Drive in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, Aug 8 (TNT): Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Saturday condemned the alleged use of police force against job aspirants who gathered at Saroornagar Indoor Stadium for a recruitment drive conducted by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).
A large number of candidates turned up at the venue for the walk-in recruitment drive for 150 contract posts, comprising 100 Disaster Response Force (DRF) assistants and 50 heavy vehicle drivers.
The physical tests, including running, long jump and shot put, were scheduled for August 8 and 9.
The turnout, reportedly running into several thousands, led to overcrowding at the venue and a chaotic situation as candidates attempted to enter the stadium for registration and physical tests.
Police used barricades and batons to control the crowd and prevent the situation from escalating, according to reports.
Reacting to the incident, Rao termed the alleged police action against young job aspirants “painful and condemnable” and questioned the Congress government over the handling of the recruitment drive.
He alleged that the government was using police force against unemployed youth instead of addressing their employment concerns.
Rao said the Congress had promised a job calendar, large-scale employment opportunities, a monthly unemployment allowance of Rs 4,000 and other support measures for youth before coming to power.
He alleged that several of these commitments remained unfulfilled even after two-and-a-half years, including the unemployment allowance, the proposed Youth Commission and Rs 10 lakh interest-free financial assistance for youth.
The BJP leader further alleged that the promised job calendar and employment opportunities had failed to meet the expectations created by the Congress during the elections.
Rao accused the Congress government of “betraying” the youth of Telangana and demanded that it explain the circumstances that led to the police action during the HYDRAA recruitment drive.
