Bagh Savari festival observed in Tirumala
Tirumala, Sept 24 (TNT): The traditional Bagh Savari festival was observed in Tirumala on Thursday evening, a day after the annual Brahmotsavams, with the processional deities taken to the Ananthalwar Gardens.
According to temple tradition, the festival commemorates an episode associated with Ananthalwar and his devotion to Sri Venkateswara.
As part of the ritual, the episode of Sri Venkateswara and His consort testing Ananthalwar’s devotion by appearing in disguise and entering his flower garden was enacted.
The legend says Ananthalwar, mistaking the disguised Goddess, tied Her to an Aswatha tree, while Sri Venkateswara escaped and disappeared into the sanctum.
On realising his mistake, Ananthalwar is said to have carried the Goddess in a basket of flowers to reunite Her with the Lord.
Pleased with his devotion, Sri Venkateswara is believed to have granted Ananthalwar a boon that He would visit the flower gardens every year after the annual Brahmotsavams.
The traditional episode was enacted during the Bagh Savari celebrations, witnessed by devotees.
Both the Tirumala Pontiffs, TTD EO Ravichandra, temple DyEO Bhaskar, religious staff and devotees participated in the event.
