Ayush Ministry Sets Guinness World Record for Largest YouTube Live Yoga Session

NEW DELHI, June 14 (TNT): The Ministry of Ayush on Sunday created a new Guinness World Record for the highest number of viewers on a YouTube live Yoga session, with 4,35,831 people participating in a special online programme ahead of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026.

The record-setting event was streamed live through the official YouTube channel of the Ministry of Ayush as part of its outreach activities for IDY 2026 and featured the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP).

According to the Ministry, the event attracted participation from Yoga practitioners, students, institutions, professionals and wellness enthusiasts from across India and several countries, reflecting the growing global appeal of Yoga.

The Ministry said the verified viewership of 4,35,831 surpassed the previous Guinness World Record of 2,46,252 viewers set in 2024. The new record exceeded the earlier benchmark by 1,89,579 viewers.

Congratulating participants, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Prataprao Jadhav said the achievement demonstrated Yoga’s ability to connect people across regions, cultures and nations through a shared commitment to health and well-being.

He said the record reflected the growing global acceptance of Yoga as a way of life and called upon citizens to embrace the “Yoga 365” movement by incorporating Yoga into their daily routines.

Ayush Secretary Rajesh Kotecha described the achievement as a significant milestone in promoting Yoga as a lifelong practice rather than a one-day event.

He said the overwhelming participation highlighted increasing recognition of Yoga as an effective tool for health, wellness and preventive healthcare.

Special video messages from Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav were also broadcast during the programme.

The leaders congratulated participants on the achievement and emphasised the importance of Yoga in promoting holistic well-being and preventive healthcare.

The event was organised by the Ministry of Ayush in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and partner organisations. Participants performed the Common Yoga Protocol under expert guidance provided during the live session.

The achievement comes ahead of the International Day of Yoga 2026, which will be observed on June 21 under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” (Swasth Ayu ke Liye Yoga).

The main national celebration of IDY 2026 will be held in Kolkata, bringing together Yoga practitioners and enthusiasts from across the country.

The Ministry of Ayush thanked Yoga institutions, educational establishments, government departments, corporate organisations, social groups and members of the Indian diaspora for their participation and reiterated its call to make Yoga a part of everyday life under the slogan “Har Ghar Yoga, Har Din Yoga.”
